Hiring Interns? Check out your top competition; Glassdoor Report

With more than 4,700 companies across the U.S. hiring interns right now, according to Glassdoor data, it’s time for employers to get serious about this competitive hiring landscape and know how to be a desirable workplace for today’s interns and tomorrow’s full-time employees.

Glassdoor released its annual report of the 25 Highest Rated Companies Hiring Interns in 2014, entirely based on intern feedback over the past year. 

This year, Facebook debuts at #1 on the list, knocking Google out of the top spot it held for the past two years, ranking #2 this year.

Highlights: 

  • Top 5 Highest Rated Companies for Internships: Facebook debuts on the third annual list at #1 with a 4.6 rating, knocking Google (4.6) out of the top spot it held on the 2013 & 2012 list, down to #2. Qualcomm (4.5), Schlumberger (4.5) and Epic Systems (4.5) round out the top five. (Company ratings based on a 5-point scale: 1.0=very dissatisfied, 3.0=OK, 5.0=very satisfied). 
  • Where in the U.S. can interns find a job?: Based on Glassdoor jobs data, New York City has nearly 900 employers hiring interns right now, followed by Los Angeles with 500 employers hiring interns and the SF Bay Area with more than 450. Based on companies with at least one intern job posting on Glassdoor as of 1/29/14. 

Tough interview questions internship candidates were asked:

“What will you do if the internet is not working?” – Yahoo Software Engineer Intern interview.

“How many skis are sold in Sweden every year?” – JPMorgan Chase Intern interview.

“Tell me about a time when you had to deliver bad news.” – Morgan Stanley Intern interview.
